RESPECT

When we are in grade school, it is very easy to describe a Filipino because when we were just starting learning things, our parents are kept on saying things that we must do as a Filipino. One of the best example of it was using "po and opo" whenever we talk with the elders. Also "pagmamano" to them and give our seats when they are standing on a bus or in any public vehicles or places. Filipinos are well known with these attitudes  or cultures because it was a sign of high respect to the elders. Unfortunately, nowadays Filipino youth or even the children seem to forget how to show respect to the elders. They forget to use po and opo whenever they talk with them, and magmano whenever they see them. And worst, they just let elders to stand on a bus even if they knew that these elders are easy to get tired and cant balance themselves.
Last August 1, of the same year, on my way home, I rode a bus for me to get home. The bus was totally full and most of the passengers were patiently standing just to get home because that's already rush hour and its very hard to see an empty vehicle to ride on. Going back to my story, I was standing near the door and a few seconds later, someone stood up and gave his seat to me. That made me really smile and say to myself, "Meron padin pala". A few minutes more an old woman came up carrying her bundles of plastics. She walked until she reached the middle part of the bus. Unexpectedly, one of the passengers stood up and gave his seat to the old woman.
(What a wonderful scene to see.)

Truly, respect is such an attitude that a person must have. Because it is important and necessary. We all have the rights to be respected and we have the obligations to do this to others also. As we show respect to other people most  specially to the elders, they will gain more self confidence and surely they will respect us as well.
